যে word কোনো noun বা pronoun এর দোষ ,গুণ, অবস্থা,পরিমান,সংখ্যা বা ক্রম ইত্যাদি প্রকাশ করে তাকে Adjective বলে।
Adjective কে qualifying word বলে । সাধারণত noun এর পূর্বে যে শব্দ বসে noun এর ভালোমন্দ সম্পর্কে তথ্য প্রদান করে তাই adjective । যেমনঃ

এখানে table noun , tableটি কী ধরণের তা বুঝাতে round শব্দটি ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।
Classification of Adjective:
Adjective সাধারণত ৪ প্রকার । যথাঃ
- Descriptive Adjective or Adjective of quality
- Quantitative Adjective or Adjective of quantity
- Numeral Adjective or Adjective of Number
- Pronominal Adjective
- DEscriptive Adjective or Adjective of quality: ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর দোষ , গুণ, অবস্থা প্রকাশ করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমনঃ
দোষঃ Bad, Disobedient, Naughty, Disloyal,Insensible, Insincere etc.
গুনঃ Good, Meritorious, Handsome, Sincere, Bright,Noble, Intelligent etc.
অবস্থাঃ Plain, Horizontal,Weak, Thin, Vertical,Difficult, Afraid, Round etc.
- Quantitative Adjective or Adjective of Quantity: Noun এর পরিমাণ নির্দেশ করতে এই Adjective ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমনঃ
much,little,few,some,any.no,enough,sufficient,adequate etc.
- Numeral Adjective or Adjective of Number: কোন Noun এর সংখ্যা ,ক্রম বা পর্যায় বুঝানোর জন্য যে Adjective ব্যবহার করা হয় তাকেই Numeral Adjective or Adjective of Number বলে । যেমনঃ Second,single, double , triple, first etc.
Numeral Adjective or Adjective of Number তিন প্রকার । যথাঃ
- Cardinal Neumeral Number—One, Two, Three,Four etc.
- Ordinal Neumeral Number—First, Second,Third,Fourth etc.
- Maltiplicative Neumeral Number—Single,
Double, Triple etc.
- Pronominal Adjective: Pronoun Noun এর পূর্বে বসে Adjective এর কাজ করলে তাকে Pronominal Adjective বলে। যেমনঃ This ,That,Those,Whose etc.
Pronominal Adjective কে ৫ ভাগে ভাগ করা হয়েছে । যথাঃ
- Possessive Adjective – My pen has been lost.
- Demonstrative Adjective—This pen is mine.
- Distributive Adjective—Neither pens write well
- Interrogative Adjective—Which pen will you by?
- Indefinite Adjective—One boy Present in the field.
