SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT | ইংরেজি গ্রামার
একটি বাক্যে subject এর বৈশিষ্ট্য verb এর মধ্যে প্রতিফলিত হয় । আর এই প্রতিফলন person ও number অনুযায়ী হয়ে থাকে । একেই subject-verb agreement বলে।
Example: He eats rice. এখানে he হলো subject. subject কী করছে । সে খাচ্ছে। He এর সাথে eat এর যে সম্পর্ক তাই হলো subject-verb agreement । মূলত subject ওverb এর মধ্যে যে আন্তঃ সম্পর্ক সেটিই subject-verb agreement.
- Subject singular হলে verb singular হবে।
Example: The list of items is on the table.
- দুইটি subject an দ্বারা যুক্ত হলে verb plural হয় ।
Example: Rahy and Ruhini are good freinds.
- Either …or ,Neither ….nor এবং or দ্বারা দুইটি subject যুক্ত করা হলে সেক্ষেত্রে পরের subject টি অনুযায়ী verb এর রূপ হবে।
Example: Either Karim or his friends have come here.
- দুইটি কর্তার আগে যদি একটিতে the থাকে তাহলে ব্যক্তি এক। সেক্ষেত্রে verb singular হবে।
Example: The teacher and Chairman has gone there.
এখানে যিনি teacher তিনিই chairman । অর্থাৎ, একজন ব্যক্তি দুটি পদবি ধারণ করেছে।
- দুইটি কর্তার আগে যদি দুইটিতেই the থাকে তাহলে ব্যক্তি এক। সেক্ষেত্রে verb pluar হবে।
Example: The teacher and the Chairman have gone there.
এখানে একজন teacher এবং একজন chairman । দুইজন আলাদা ব্যক্তি।
- One of,each of, either of, neither of,the use of, the quality of, the number of এসকল শব্দের পরে noun plural হলে verb singularহবে ।
Example: One of the students has got A+
- Collective Noun একত্রে থাকলে subject singular হবে এবং verb ও sigular হবে
Example: The class have 50 students.
- *** Collective Noun কে ভাগ করা হলে subject singular হলেওএবং verb plural হবে।
Example: The class have been devided into three catagories.
- ***There , here দিয়ে শুরু হলে verb এর পরে subject হয়। সেই অনুযায়ী singular /plural হবে।
Example: There has a book on the table.
Example: There have many books on the table.
- ভগ্নাংশ যুক্ত কোন বাক্যে ভগ্নাংশ যুক্ত শব্দের পরের অংশটি subject হয় । সেক্ষেত্রে subject singular হলে verb ও singular হবে । subject plural হলে verb ও pluralহবে ।
Example: One-third of the book has been finished
Example: One-third of the books have been finished.
- Gerund ও infinitive যুক্ত বাক্যে noun singular বা plural যাই হোক না কেন verb singular হবে।
Example: Buying books is my hobby.
Example: To eat a fruit has become my favourite.
- Relative clause যুক্ত বাক্য হলে প্রথম subject অনুযায়ী verb হবে।
Example: I who am your friend am going to Dhaka.
Example: Those who are your friends are brilliant
- Adjective এর আগে the বসলে সেটি common noun হয় , common noun এর verb plural হয়।
Example: The poor are honest
- Some, more, lots of ,a lot of ,majority, no , none যুক্ত বাক্যে এই শব্দগুলোর পরে যে শব্দটি বসবে সেটিকে subject ধরে সে অনুযায়ী singular/plural হবে।
Example: Some books are important.
Example: Some water is poor.
- Along with, together with, as well as, accompanied with, in addition to, and not এই শব্দ গুলো দিয়ে দুইটি subject যুক্ত হলে প্রথম subject অনুযায়ী verb হবে।
Example: I along with my friends have gone there.
Example: He and not I is the student.
- ***A number of যুক্ত বাক্য হলে তার noun ও verb উভয়ই plural হবে। The number of যুক্ত বাক্য হলে তার noun plural হবে কিন্তু verb singular হবে ।
Example: A number of the boys are going to class.
Example: The number of the boys is going to the class.
- Every, no, some, any+one/body/thing যুক্ত বাক্য হলে verb singular হবে ।
Example: Everybody has gone
Example: No one is present.
- One Type /kind/short এর আগে এক হলে noun, verb দুটিই singular হবে। একের অধিক Typeস /kind/short হলে noun, verb দুটিই plural হবে।
Example: One type of book is important
Example: Three types of books are important.
